I’ve learned from my masters that the two most important factors in choosing a natural stone are: the origin of the stone and the quality of the stone. The latter requires someone who is knowledgeable enough to assess quality by looking at specific elements.

According to a man with over 60 years of experience in the stone industry (and a trained sword polisher), the color, mountain, layers, and appearance of the stone is not very important. Because of this, it is really difficult to assess the quality of a stone just by looking at a picture online.

Without some first-hand experience and a deep understanding of the history of mines, you may not be able to choose the right stone for your needs.
